On the stage of the recent PlayStation Showcase we were finally able to confirm the release date of Alan Wake 2. On October 17th, in fact, all those who loved the 2010 original by Remedy Entertainment will be able to return to play the most unfortunate writer in the world on PS5, Xbox Series X | S and PC. However, collectors will definitely have something to say about one of the marketing choices put in place by Remedy Same. And no, we’re not talking about trophy collectors, rather.
Alan Wake 2 will be released only digitally: no physical edition, at least for the moment
In the past few hours, in fact, Remedy has confirmed that no physical release of Alan Wake 2 is planned. Apparently there is only one main reason: to keep the cost of the game low for the consumer. In a recent FAQ, the developers would have commented:
First of all, a large number of gamers have opted for digital purchases. You can also buy a PlayStation 5 without an optical drive, and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is digital-only. It’s also not uncommon for modern games to be released digitally only. Secondly, avoiding disc distribution helps keep the price of the game at 59.99 euros and the PC version at 49.99 euros. Finally, we didn’t want a disc product to require a download to play, as we don’t think it’s a good experience for gamers.
And perhaps on this last point we can even agree, considering the recent trend for the market to use physical discs as simple download codes. A rather frustrating factor, considering the amount of data to be downloaded once the disc is inserted into the console and the not always performing situation of the Italian internet lines.
At the moment, therefore, there are no plans for the publication of Alan Wake 2 even in the physical version, according to the words of Remedy. That’s not to say that the software house can’t change its mind in the future, but everything remains to be seen.
