Apple: According to a rumor, a rival for Nintendo Switch is in development

A rumor claims that Apple is developing a rival platform to challenge Nintendo Switch: let’s analyze the pros and cons of the rumor

We talked about the mind-boggling revenues that Nintendo he accumulated with Switch, but according to a rumor also Apple he wants a piece of this pie. Not that Apple is lacking in revenue: it is believed that the “apple” products currently in use in the world are 1.65 billion, while 2020 earnings are around 274.5 million dollars. It is surprising that beyond the unfortunate Pippin created together with Bandai in the early nineties (and outside of Apple Arcade), Microsoft’s other historical rival never entered the world of consoles, but apparently things are about to change.

Apple vs Nintendo Switch: the rumor

The source of this rumor is the Korean forum Clien, in which a post claims that Apple is working on a “hybrid” console exactly like Nintendo Switch. The resulting new hardware would use a new chip never before seen in the company’s products, ensuring “high-performance GPU e support for ray tracing“. In all of this, it seems Ubisoft is one of the publishers consulted during development. The post does not mention any source, but although TechRadar has openly distrusted the return of the silicone giant in the gaming sphere, the rumor is already circulating.

The financial risk, in Apple’s case, it would be very high. Sony has already tried to beat Nintendo in the field of portable gaming and Microsoft is not interested in making any attempt. Most of the hardware development at the moment is directed towards future MacBook Pro models, so in general our advice is to take this rumor with a grain of salt. Stranger things have happened in the past, anyway.
