Apple may announce a new device called Mac Studio and a new display based on iOS, this at least according to a last-minute confirmation from the well-known analyst Mark Gurman by Bloomberg. In a tweet, Gurman says that the Mac Studio and a new monitor with iOS are ready to go on the market and will likely debut tonight.
Apple: Mac Studio and a new display are coming
Just last night, it YouTuber Luke Miani shared renders of this supposed Mac Studio, showing a machine that features a very similar design to the Mac mini, albeit slightly thicker. The Mac Studio it should therefore feature the same square-shaped design as the current Mac mini, with the difference that it should measure four inches tall and has a new thermal design to mitigate heat.
Miani announced that the Mac Studio would undoubtedly be revealed at tonight’s event, and it now appears that Gurman is confirming it. We first heard the name of Mac Studio last week on the 9to5Mac site, which described it as some sort of hybrid device between a Mac mini and a Mac Pro. Previous rumors have indicated both a high-end Mac mini and a Mac Pro is smaller in development, and it seems these rumors may have pointed to the Mac Studio.
The Mac Studio could therefore replace the high-end Mac mini and could be sold as a smaller alternative to the Mac Pro. It shouldn’t be as powerful as the Mac Pro, but it should use Apple’s M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, along with an option for a more powerful version of the M1 Max.
To accompany the Mac Studio, there are rumors that Apple will also release the Studio Display. Miani said the Studio Display will feature a 27-inch size with slightly larger bezels than the Pro Display XDR, and now Gurman suggests it will support iOS, indicating an integrated A-series chip.
