L'intelligenza artificiale di Apple funzionerà direttamente su iPhone thumbnail

Apple's artificial intelligence will work directly on iPhone

Apple will bring artificial intelligence to iPhone with iOS 18 and, according to the latest rumors, the Cupertino company aims to manage AI directly on deviceswithout going through the cloud.

Apple's AI, coming to iOS 18, will run directly on iPhone

Mark Gurman on Bloomberg (via Phone Arena), in his weekly Power On newsletter, says Apple will make all the new AI features available to iPhone users through the iOS 18 update, managed on-device: The computation will be all on the device, not online. This approach will allow users to leverage AI in a way faster and maintaining privacy.

If Samsung leaves users the choice whether to analyze requests made to Galaxy AI on the device or via the cloud, Apple seems intent on keep everything local. However, this may limit the AI's capabilities, as i Large Language Models (LLM) like ChatGPT require access to more powerful cloud computers to run on smartphones.

Apple iPhone, AI on device functionality

To overcome this problem, Gurman speculates that Apple could allow some artificial intelligence capabilities access the cloud on iOS 18. Apple could power them with Google Gemini (with which Apple is reportedly negotiating) or other AI systems. It is not yet clear how it will differentiate online and on-device requests at the graphical interface level.

Gurman thinks that, in any case, these innovations will not be part of a new chatbot to be used on iPhone. Apple it should integrate AI into the device featuresperhaps within Siri.

The news regarding artificial intelligence on iOS 18 will be revealed on June 10th, during the WWDC 2024. Someone has already defined the update as the largest of the operating system since the birth of the iPhone in 2007: it remains to be seen what they will be. We will keep you posted.
