A level that considering the genre is obviously not easy to reach, between the risks given by too low budgets or too absurd scripts. Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: here are our top ten favorites

We specify that the ranking is randomly ordered since we are talking about all products of a certain level. If you think some missing TV series should be in this ranking, let us know in the comments!

Black Mirror | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

We could not start this list except with Black Mirror, an anthological TV series considered by many to be the queen of serial science fiction on Netflix. Harsh, cynical, very hard but at the same time unmissable. Each episode of Black Mirror is set in the unspecified future more or less near / far and revolves around fundamental themes related to technology. The beauty of the series lies in its ability to hit the weak points of current society by showing future models. Do not expect a quiet evening, Black Mirror hurts all right, but it remains an unmissable pearl able to make the viewer reflect deeply. Moreover, the autonomy of the individual episodes allows you to enjoy it without having to keep in mind particular stories or characters.

Born from the brilliant mind of Charlie Brooker, the popular interactive film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018) was also taken from it. The single episodes were also attended by big names such as Jerome Flynn, Bryce Dallas Howard O Daniel Kaluuya.

Altered Carbon | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

Inspired by the literary cycle of Richard Morgan, Altered Carbon is based on the concept that the human mind can be digitized and poured into other bodies, allowing one to travel only with consciousness to the galaxy and achieve near immortality. The two seasons on Netflix address this topic differently: the first season it’s a detective story with cyberpunk colors useful to familiarize yourself with the background of the protagonist, while the second focuses more on the protagonist (Joel Kinnaman) and its past, laying the foundations for its future.

One of the most ambitious Neflix TV series, it is the result of a team of great talents behind movies like Shutter Island, Fargo or TV series like Game of thrones e Daredevil.

Stranger Things | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

Probably the most famous fantasy / sci – fi TV series among those in the catalog on Netflix. And the result is not unexpected considering the irresistible mix of exciting story, the ’80s and a cast of little teens, one better than the other (Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo…). A simple yet fascinating story that offers an unstoppable level of entertainment. If you haven’t seen it yet, well, run and retrieve it. It will be able to satisfy every type of spectator, even the most demanding.

Born from the minds of the Duffer Brothers, the series also sees the presence of two great actors like Winona Ryder e David Harbour.

Dark | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

Premise similar to Stranger Things but completely different history and atmospheres. Dark can in fact be seen as the nihilistic and leaden version of the famous American series, although here we are not talking about monsters and “upside down” but about time travel. In short, the title does not lie, Dark is truly Dark and this is its beauty. Moreover, the script, although very intricate, has a crazy bite on the viewer.

German production with a certain authorial character, Dark is undoubtedly a quality series, which you will appreciate very much especially if you are looking for a sci-fi entertainment a little different from the usual. PS: if you loved the Twin Peaks of David Lynch you will also love Dark.

Snowpiercer | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

Snowpiercer starts from the same premises as the graphic novel of the same name, from which the film by director Bong Joon-Ho was born. A new ice age has virtually extinguished the human race and the only survivors are the fauna of a long train, divided into classes, from the richest to the poorest. If the opening words are therefore identical, this “Snowpiercer” is however a crime variant. History indeed mixes the main theme of the social struggle to tell the investigation of a former policeman (belonging to the poorer class of the train) on the hunt for a killer. The narrative gimmick gives freshness to the series and at the same time provides the same metaphorical insights that the feature film and the original comic have given to the public. The technical packaging is also excellent, except for a CGI that is not always up to date but still justifiable considering the television nature of the work.

A very good TV series, the victim of various production problems but which still managed to find the way to the small screen. Among the producers we find the same Bong Joon-Ho.

Star Trek – classic series | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

What to say, one of the pop cultural reference products for several generations and one of the first series so avant-garde in terms of social issues. For the first time in the history of television, a Japanese, a woman of African descent, several Americans, a Scotsman, an alien and a Russian, when the world is split in two by the Cold War, find themselves working together in the same crew. The goal is to explore the universe in search of new cultures with which to give life to mutual exchanges in the name of equality and peace.

Star Trek risked being canceled after only two seasons but thanks to the commitment of fans it has become the cult product we all know now. If you see and appreciate the beginning of the Star Trek epic you can also fully enjoy the many other series and films, linked to this fantastic universe, present on Netflix.

Rick and Morty | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

Rick is a scientist who moved from the family of his daughter Beth, a heart surgeon for horses. He spends most of his time inventing various high-tech gadgets and taking his young grandson Morty – and later grandson Summer – with him on dangerous and fantastic adventures through their and other parallel universes.

This animated series will literally throw your brain into jelly, with hilarious, absurd and bewildered sequences. Definitely one of the best anime on Netflix, the creation of And Harmon e Justin Roiland it is able to carry a science fiction that is not only delirious but also very profound.

The 100 | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

A global nuclear war has devastated planet Earth and for about a century, only the Ark remains of mankind, a complex of twelve minor space stations that were in orbit at the time of the disaster. The Ark has very strict laws to maintain order: whoever transgresses is punished with death by expulsion into the void. But now, the Ark is dying with population growth and the rapid deterioration of recycling facilities. Council members decide to send one hundred juvenile delinquents to Earth to check if the planet is habitable again. These young boys will embark on a very dangerous journey to a planet that is fascinating but unknown to them. They will therefore have to find a way to overcome differences, join forces and create a new beginning on the Earth which has now completely changed: it is wild, primitive and full of pitfalls.

Considered by some critics one of the best science fiction series of recent years, The 100 is a creation of Jason Rothenberg.

Lost in Space | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

In the future, humans are forced to migrate from Earth to form new colonies. One of the spacecraft, which carries the Robinson family, is damaged until it crashes on an unknown planet. As they attempt to discover the cause of the accident, they come into contact with a mysterious extraterrestrial life form.

Remake of a popular American TV series of the 60s, Lost in space, despite a mediocre script, still manages to give moments of great show.

Love, Death & Robots | Best science fiction TV series on Netflix

Best science fiction TV series on Netflix: the 10 to see

We close with an animated anthology series or Love, Death & Robots. The latter, while not dealing exclusively with the science fiction genre, presents several of its episodes dealing with post-apocalyptic worlds, robots, astronauts and so much tall. The series is practically a small jewel, able to demonstrate, like many other masterpieces of the genre, the full freedom that animation can achieve.

Opera strictly for adults, Love, Death & Robots is a gem not to be missed. As proof of its quality, we find the great one among the producers David Fincher.

Final remarks

Now that you have reached the bottom of this leaderboard, you will surely have many options to choose from. We go from products “for everyone” like Stranger Things to more adult works like Love, Death & Robots or Black Mirror. In general, however, the level is really high and in some cases, like for Star Trek, we are talking about series with decades of life, so you will not be bored!
