Plaion Pictures has announced the release date in Italian cinemas of Daliland, the biopic directed by Mary Harron with Oscar winner Ben Kingsley: let’s find out all the details together in this dedicated article
Through a press release, Plaion Pictures has announced that, starting next May 25, Daliland will be available in Italian cinemas. The biopic directed by Mary Harron stars the Oscar winner Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Hugo Cabret) as the histrionic and eccentric artist Salvador Dalì, joined by Barbara Sukowa, Ezra Miller and Christopher Briney. After delving into the darkness of the human mind with the cult American Psycho and having told of another genius of art in I shot Andy Warhol, Mary Harron returns behind the camera in this biopic that defies convention. Focusing the lens on the twilight career of Salvador Dalí – surrealist master author of masterpieces such as The Persistence of Memory – the director outlines the electrifying portrait of one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century, whose existence was characterized until the end by a irresistible mix of genius and recklessness. Daliland introduces us to the world of Salvador Dalì, on a journey into the everyday life of the eccentric genius, but above all of the man behind the artist.
Navigating through the lights and shadows of Dalí’s life, investigating some of the lesser-known aspects of his daily life, Harron offers the audience a fascinating mosaic, glamorous and fun but at the same time deeply introspective. For a similar challenge, the Canadian filmmaker was able to count on an exceptional cast, which includes Barbara Sukowa (Johnny Mnemonic, Air – The Story of the Great Leap) in the role of Gala, Dalí’s domineering wife, and the chameleonic Ben Kingsley in the guise of the brilliant painter. Precisely the face of the Oscar® Award, extraordinarily similar to Dalì, dominates the official poster of the film, whose claim “The journey into excess begins with a mustache”, highlights the unbridled existence of the man who made the excess is an art.
Daliland finally arrives at the cinema: here is the release date!
The synopsis of the film is as follows:
New York 1974, James works at the art gallery that will host the next exhibition of the genius Salvador Dalí. When the artist himself offers him to become his assistant, the boy thinks of fulfilling his dream of life, but he soon discovers that all that glitters is not gold. Behind the flamboyant lifestyle, glamor and sumptuous parties, a great void consumes the now elderly painter, devoured by the fear of growing old and by the pain of the threadbare relationship with his despotic wife Gala, once his muse and now surrounded by young lovers and obsessed with money.
Presented at the Toronto International Film Festival 2022 and out of competition at the 40th Turin Film Festival, Mary Harron’s biopic Daliland has its release date in Italian cinemas from May 25, distributed by Plaion Pictures.
