Packaging and build quality | Doogee S100 review

Like any self-respecting rugged, Doogee S100 also arrives in a package and in a body that lives up to expectations. Regarding the first, together with the smartphone we find: the66W fast power supply, the USB Type-C data cable, an extra protective film and user manuals. Equally of level is the build quality, Doogee S100 in fact brings with it all the peculiar “rugged” characteristics; among these the rubberized external protection able to absorb shocks well, a well-made leather back cover and a slight front riser for the display. In short, nothing is left to chance in a device capable of withstanding even the most extreme situations, thanks to the IP68/69K certification against water and dust and the standard MIL-STD-810H. Finally, in addition to the typical power and volume balance buttons, we find on the left side a programmable button of the user’s choice (flashlight, camera, etc.).

Hardware and displays | Doogee S100 review

Doogee S100 monta un SoC MediaTek Helio G99 4G at 6nm and 12 GB of virtually expandable RAM. Added to this are 256 GB of type storage memory UFS 2.2, fast enough for any type of operation. The hardware is there and makes itself felt, resulting in good performance, especially considering the type of product and the price range. It is a smartphone even suitable for gaming (not too intense) thanks also to the stratospheric autonomy, which we will discuss in the next paragraphs.

The display is perhaps the weakest point of the whole package, a IPS with not too bright colors and peak brightness of approx 480 nits, just enough for outdoor use. Inside it is then set a now dated as anachronistic drip notch, which would be passable in case of well-optimized frames, but this is not the case. However, the audio sector takes care of resolving the situation on a multimedia level, thanks to two stereo speakers positioned frontally and with excellent sound performance, both in terms of power and quality.

Cameras | Doogee S100 review

You know, rugged phones are not the best devices when it comes to photography, and this Doogee S100 is unfortunately no exception. Despite the large numbers, such as the main sensor from 108 MPthe 20 MP night and the 32MP front, the actual results hardly surprise. However, the lack that is most perceived is that of stabilization, which leads to shots that are often moved and unusable. However, in good light conditions the device is able to perform discreet photos, sufficient for social use. Similar speech for videos, poorly stabilized and of decent quality, and for the camera software, really poco user friendly. However, the good night camera should be mentioned, which can be really useful in certain scenarios.

Software and autonomy | Doogee S100 review

Right here Doogee S100 returns to amaze, with an unthinkable autonomy given by the large installed module of 10.800 mAh, a real record. They result 3 or 4 days of heavy use, really useful in case of excursions or trips out of town. However, the ergonomics and the weight pay the price, which is really high and which makes this device certainly not within everyone’s reach. To improve instead the software, based on Android 12, which still sees poorly translated sections or aesthetically backward areas and animations today. Finally, a question mark for updates, there is no certain news but it is hoped that we will be able to reach at least the typical 2 years of majors.

Conclusions and price

Doogee S100 is a respectable smartphone, not only for its rugged nature but also for the many extra features available, such as the night cam or the practically infinite battery. The device starts from €439.99 for the 12/256GB variant on Amazon. A fair price for the possibilities offered by the product.
