EK: announced EK-Quantum Convection M.2 NVMe

The EK company announced in the last few hours the EK-Quantum Convection M.2 NVMe, or its new line of M.2 SSD heatsinks

EK Water Blocks (here for more information), the Slovenian manufacturer of premium PC liquid cooling systems, launched its first heatsinks for M.2 NVMe SSDs five years ago. Since then, EK has sold over 100,000 of these drives and has earned a reputation for producing efficient passive cooling solutions for M.2 SSDs. This reputation has led to partnerships with leading storage manufacturers, the latest of which is Seagate. Ed, developing a heat sink for FireCuda 530 SSDwhich has found its home in many gaming PCs and even consoles PlayStation 5.

With SSDs not planning to get slower, just faster, the need for SSD cooling solutions will increase and EK has prepared a new heatsink, theEK-Quantum Convection M.2 NVMe, as part of the Quantum product line. The restyling did not only bring aesthetic changes but also a very important functional update. As M.2 SSDs are getting faster, they are also gaining capacity and using a double-sided layout. And this is where EK-Quantum Convection M.2 NVMe takes over.

EK-Quantum Convection M.2 NVMe

The EK-Quantum Convection M.2 NVMe is a passive aluminum heatsink for M.2 NVMe solid state drives. While not a water-cooling component, it is a much-needed aesthetic and cooling solution for many PC owners. It’s no secret that M.2 NVMe SSDs can quickly overheat and be subject to thermal throttling, thereby losing performance. However, the new heatsink from EK will completely prevent thermal throttling in cases with sufficient airflow or significantly extend the time before SSD thermal throttling occurs.

IS simple to install, low profile, easily reusable and aesthetically unobtrusive. The heatsink uses a design intelligente. Where flipping the back plate will realign the mounting holes on the back plate to another set of screw holes on the heatsink. This will move the backplate away from the main body of the heatsink, allowing for more space and installation on double-sided SSDs.

It is constructed of high quality aluminum and is available in four distinctive finishes. With its unique design similar to Quantum, this heat sink will be the perfect addition to your build. The four available finishes ( gold, black, nickel and silver) will perfectly match other products in the EK Quantum line such as Torque fittings, pump covers, backplates, etc.

EK-Quantum Convection M.2 NVMe It is compatible with all single-sided and dual-sided 2280 M.2 NVMe SSDs (22mm wide, 80mm long). Since the heatsink consists of a front and a back plate, compatibility is limited to M.2 (NGFF) connectors with a height of 4.2mm. Single-sided M.2 NVMe SSDs only have chips on one side of the PCB. This means that all of the storage and controller electronics are placed on one side of the drive, hence the name, one-sided. These units are smaller and generate less heat. Double-sided M.2 NVMe drives have chips on both sides of the PCB. These drives usually offer greater storage capacity by adding flash memory storage chips to either side of the drive.

Availability and price

These premium M.2 NVMe solid state drive heatsinks are manufactured in Slovenia, Europe, and are now available forpurchase through EK Webshop and the network of partner resellers. The table below shows the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), including VAT.
