Fists in the Pocket: A Remake Starring Elle Fanning and Kristen Stewart
Aïnouz praised the film by the Italian director, to which he was last year recognized the EFA award for Exterior Night. These are his words.
Marco Bellocchio’s surprising debut, Fists in the Pocket, was released over fifty years ago and had a huge impact on Italian cinema and storytelling at the time. I am thrilled to collaborate with Efthimis Filippou to revisit this iconic work and create a contemporary parable about the death of the traditional patriarchal family, which I hope is touching and provocative in equal measure. It is a dream come true to work with such a dynamic group of actors whom I have long admired to bring this explosive adaptation to contemporary audiences.
Fists in the Pocket by Marco Bellocchio tells the story of a blind mother, played at the time by Liliana Gracewho witnesses the progressive psychological deterioration of her four children, each a symbol of an illness, while her concern for Alessandro and his psychotic problems threaten the balance of the family nucleus.
Marco Bellocchio is currently in the running at Cannes Film Festival with the film Abducted, and has not expressed any opinion regarding the remake that will have to be done and on which, as always, we will update you on the production.
