Gears of War 3: the almost functional build for PS3 is online

The preliminary version of Gears of War for PS3 is now available online, but don’t expect anything fully playable – bugs abound

With the continuing cornucopia of encrypted content that the disputed cause between Epic and Apple is uncovering, she is now the first of the two to receive the same treatment with the release of the build of Gears of War 3 per PS3. In theory, anyone with a modified version of PlayStation 3 can play this Xbox exclusive. In practice, however, there is more than just a blank DVD between the game itself and your every chance to play it. Not only would you need a special console, you wouldn’t even have a technically stable version of the game in your hands.

My big fat Gears of War on PS3

The user PixelButts of Twitter, in his activity as a digital archivist, celebrated the tenth anniversary of the build of Gears of War 3 for PS3 by releasing on the internet the version in his possession, which dates back to May 19, 2011. The foreign press talked about it last May, when the existence of this version first emerged in a video by PixelButts himself, where the beta was running for over eight hours. To play the title, however, it is necessary a PlayStation 3 for developers, including more RAM. Not that this, however, is enough to prevent the bug to proliferate.

Furthermore, according to PixelButts, the popular RPCS3 emulator does not go beyond alone title screen. Things may improve in the future, but for now we are happy to spare you a waste of time. When the archivist showed the video last May, many wondered if the conversion had come from a port. For once, it was Epic who had to step in by talking about an internal testing phase. The project was in fact born to test the functioning of Unreal Engine 3 on Sony’s hardware, thus generating the surreal view of Marcus Fenix on PlayStation 3.
