Cliff Bleszinski, creator of the Gears of War video game franchise, has returned to talk about the Netflix film adaptation, revealing that he would like to see Zack Snyder direct and supporting the idea of Dave Bautista as the protagonist
The creator of the video game Gears of War wants Zack Snyder to direct the film adaptation. For Zack Snyder it would be the first time dealing with a video game adaptation, despite having experimented with the genre with his Sucker Punch. According to Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski, Zack Snyder’s distinctive style would fit well with the film adaptation announced by Netflix and based on the popular video game series.

Interviewed on the occasion of the release of his latest comic, ScrapperCliff Bleszinski then revealed the director to whom he would entrust the live action adaptation of Gears of War, that is Zack Synder, also explaining the reasons behind his choice:
To be honest, I think Zack Snyder is an amazing director when working with an existing IP. I think about when he did the remake of Dawn of the Dead, some of his superhero films, when he did 300. As an adaptation, 300 defined an entire film genre, slow motion and fast panning.
However, the video game designer criticized one of Snyder’s most recent films, Army of the Dead, so the prospects of seeing him direct could be negatively affected. He specifically said he turned it off halfway through the film, thinking it was terrible. Regardless, Bleszinski said he believes Snyder would be “perfect” to adapt the video game series which launched in 2006. The director himself, moreover, in the past, had expressed the desire to be able to direct the adaptation of Gears of War. Bleszinski then returned to talk about the possibility that Dave Bautista plays the protagonist, Marcus Fenix, a role for which the actor has proposed himself several times, convinced by his performances in Blade Runner and in the role of Drax for Marvel. We’ll see if this vision becomes reality.
