Disney Plus confirms the release of Hocus Pocus 2 in 2022: the sequel will see the return of the three protagonists and a change of direction
Finally Disney has officially confirmed the release of the much-rumored Hocus Pocus 2. The sequel to the 1993 fantasy film is expected to arrive inautumn of 2022 directly streaming on the platform Disney Plus, just in time for Halloween.
The great news is that we will be able to see the three protagonists of the original film directed by Kenny Ortega: Bette Means (Winnie), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah) e Kathy Najimy (Mary). The three witches will once again be accidentally recalled by three young women in contemporary Salem. The Sanderson sisters will have to be stopped before they can cause any more trouble.
Hocus Pocus 2: a change of direction
Initially at the helm of Hocus Pocus 2 there should have been Adam Shankman, who, however, had to give up because he was on the set of another sequel, Come d’incanto 2. Shankman will still remain within the project as an executive producer, and will be replaced as director by Anne Fletcher. In this regard, the director said he was sorry but still proud of the project:
I am truly sorry that I cannot direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what I am sure will truly be an event movie for Disney +. Unfortunately my schedule doesn’t allow me to, but I couldn’t be happier to leave the reins of the project to Anne, who has brought lots of laughter and joy to viewers’ lives with her previous works. I am grateful and proud to still be able to contribute to this project as executive producer alongside producer Lynn Harris, whom I have always admired as a colleague and loved as a friend, ever since she helped me choreograph Boogie Nights.

The new director, Anne Fletcher, said instead:
Now more than ever, people need a good laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is a lot of fun with these three great women and their respective characters in this beloved movie. I am grateful to be able to play a part in bringing the three witches back to life, and the opportunity to work again with my friends at Disney makes it even more special. This will be a film for everyone, for those who grew up with the first chapter and for the new generations. Can’t wait to get started!
