I am legend 2: Alice Braga hopes for a return of her character

While I Am Legend 2 is in the planning stages, some actors are clamoring for their character’s return

The news leaked a few months ago, the famous 2007 film starring Will Smith, I’m legend, will be back with a second chapter. The announcement was greeted with surprise by fans and actors, who said they were enthusiastic about the new project. One of the actresses, in particular, wanted to underline how much she would like her character to be included again in the plot, it is Alice Braga who would love to return as the surviving Anna. Let’s find out what her words are.

How surprised was the news of the sequel? I was super surprised and very curious. I was about to rush to call to ask “Can I be there too? Can I be there too? Can I be there too?”. I’m a big fan of Akiva Goldsman, he’s a very good writer, he was the first American screenwriter I was able to observe closely when I arrived in the USA, since that was my first American project. I was really excited when I read that they wanted to continue the story, I really hope they do. I have no idea where the project is at, but I hope they do.

From these few sentences, the enthusiasm of the actress clearly shines through, also famous for her role in City of God (2002), Queen of the South (2016-2021) and The New Mutants (2020). Who knows if Akiva Goldsman, screenwriter of the film, will take into consideration the request which, from what transpires from Alice Braga’s words, sounds almost like a nice plea. Unfortunately, the director has not yet mentioned a hypothetical return of him, while it is rumored that Michael B. Jordan can make his entrance, as a new member of the cast.

What awaits us…

If the future of the survivor Anna is not yet clear, the situation is different for other characters. Goldsman indeed stressed that the return of Robert Neville, unforgettable character played by Will Smith, it will be possible. This is because the events that will be narrated in I Am Legend 2 will be based on the alternative ending, present in the home video edition of the film. If you have no idea what this ending is, you can run to YouTube to catch it up. As confessed by the screenwriter, the new film should be set ten years after the events narrated in the first film, as well as being inspired by the recent The Last of Us, a series that has managed to achieve incredible success with audiences and critics. These are the words of Goldsman:

The new film will be set a few decades later than the first. I’m obsessed with The Last of Us, where we only see the world after the apocalypse and especially after a lapse of 20-30 years. We see how Earth reclaims her world, little by little. There is something beautiful in the matter of how man gets away from being its main inhabitant. This thing will be seen very well in New York. I don’t know if they will go all the way up to the Empire State Building, but the possibilities are endless. We’ll go to the heart of Matheson’s original tale and tie into the alternate ending compared to the finale that hit theaters. What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet while the dominant species, his, had come to an end. This is a really cool thing that we’re about to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text.
