Instagram is testing the new ‘Take a Break’ feature for iOS

The CEO of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced today that the social network is starting on beta test of a new digital wellness feature dubbed “Take a Break”. Let’s find out all the details together.

Take a Break, the new Instagram feature

Instagram recently added on devices iOS a new feature called Take a Break. As the name implies, this feature was designed for encourage users to take regular breaks from the use of Instagram. In a video released today, Mosseri explained that it is an “opt-in control that allows you to receive in-app break reminders after a duration of your choice.”

The CEO further revealed:

What we’re starting to test this week on Instagram is a feature I’m actually particularly happy with. Is called “Take a Break” and does what you think. If you choose, it encourages you to take a break from Instagram after spending a certain amount of time on the app – 10, 20, 30 minutes. We worked with third-party experts and got advice on what tips there should be and how to frame the take a break.

The request “Time for a break?” encourages users to “take a moment to reset their mind by closing Instagram”. It suggests we take a few deep breaths, or write down what we are thinking at that moment, listen to our favorite song or do one of the activities on our To-Do-List.

Mosseri revealed that the new feature, available on iOS for now, is in testing phase starting this week for some select Instagram users. The CEO concludes by stating that he hopes to be able to release it by December on all devices.
