Sources close to the production of the highly anticipated Joker: Folie À Deux say that Todd Phillips' film will be a jukebox musical
In the sequel to the film with Joaquin Phoenix we will listen to a long list of very famous songs, proposed in the form of musicals like in Moulin Rouge!
After the enthusiastic reactions to the test screening of Joker: Folie à Deux, here is another indiscretion on the sequel to the blockbuster thriller directed by Todd Phillips in 2019. In the film with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga music will play a very important role and this was already known, but what we didn't yet know is that the film will propose at least 15 very famous songs, re-interpreted for the film. After all, when you have an exceptional artist like Lady Gaga at your disposal, not 'exploiting' her vocal talents to the full would be a true heresy and, having said that, the feature film will almost be a jukebox musical.
Joker: Folie À Deux will be a musical jukebox
While not strictly following the canons of the film genre, in Joker 2 Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga perform songs as a duet, and some are only sung by her. The songs will be a mix of old and new songs, for example one of the songs is That’s Entertainment, tratta dal musical del 1953 The Band Wagon. We may also hear a couple of original songs, which will be added to the final version of the film. The Oscar Award Hildur Guðnadóttirwho won the statuette thanks to Joker, is working on the original music.
In Joker: Folie à Deux, Joaquin Phoenix will once again take on the role of the deranged stand-up comedian Arthur Fleck, already played in Joker (2019). A role that, in 2020, earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. That's not all: the film won the Golden Lion in Venice 76, it grossed over one billion and 74 million dollars and won 11 Oscar nominations. The budget of the second act, according to some sources, amounts to 200 million dollars. In the sequel, the talented pop star Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn. They are also in the cast of Joker: Folie à Deux Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, Jacob Lofland e Harry Lawtey in undisclosed roles. He will return Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond. The story, set in Arkham Asylum, will be told from Harley Quinn's point of view and will revolve around music therapy sessions. The soundtrack will be heavily inspired by Liza Minelli musicals such as Cabaret, New York, New York and That's Entertainment. The theatrical release date is October 4 in the United States.
