LEGO Ferrari 488 GTE: the first model to exceed 200 km / h

The LEGO TECHNIC Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse # 51” is the first LEGO model to speed at over 200 km / h on a real racing circuit

The group LEGO has “crossed” a very special goal: the LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse # 51” set had the honor of speeding around the legendary Modena Circuit, in Italy. The realization of this memorable event was possible thanks to a team of about 20 people, who installed the brick version of the racing car on a real Ferrari 488 GTE, driven for the occasion by Giancarlo Fisichella, official Ferrari Competizioni GT driver.

The LEGO model was installed on the front of the racing car thanks to a specially designed mechanical arm for this occasion. To immortalize the first time of a LEGO set launched at full speed on a real racing track, were employees who documented the ride from every angle. In addition, the images and sounds captured by the cameras on the circuit were assembled to create an adrenaline-pumping video, thanks to which all LEGO fans and motor enthusiasts can experience the speed, the roar of the engine and the vibrations of the race as if they were really in the racing car.

The LEGO Group launched the LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE set in late 2020. Designed for LEGO fans and anyone who enjoys the car racing experience, This 48cm long racing model was made with 1,677 LEGO Technic elements, for an engaging and rewarding building experience dedicated to builders over the age of 18 who love endurance racing, motor sports and Ferrari cars.

After witnessing the exciting race, Camillo Mazzola, Marketing Director of LEGO Italy, commented:

The LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE is packed with authentic features and beautiful design elements taken from the original racing car model. It’s very similar to the real one, and all it needed to really come to life was to be able to whiz around a real race car circuit, and today it happened! As a true LEGO fan and car racing lover, I couldn’t miss this very special event and it was really exciting to be part of this great project with our partner Ferrari.

During this thrilling ride, the LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE reached the speed of a real racing car, 208 km / h.

This day was also very special for Matteo Fossati, fan at LEGO e lucky contest winner Win a day on the track with LEGO Technic: an initiative that involved all Italian brick lovers who bought a LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE set and registered on the dedicated website from May 13th to 30th. Matteo Fossati also had the chance to get into a Ferrari 488 Challenge for a lap and enjoy an incredible race together with two-time world champion Matteo Bobbi.
