Let’s kiss – Franco Grillini. Story of a gentle revolution by Filippo Vendemmiati wins the Silver Ribbon 2022 and will be released on Sky Documentaries

The documentary Let’s Kiss, personal history of Franco Grillini, becomes testimony of thirty years of battles for civil rights. It deservedly won the Silver Ribbon for documentaries 2022. The happy announcement was given by the Italian Film Journalists who chose the film from among 150 films in competition. We know that the competition was particularly fierce, in a panorama full of themes, stories and characters who have not forgotten the current events. Laura Delli Colli, President on behalf of the Nation of Journalists, said about the period:

“In a year that is still difficult, marked by interesting testimonies linked to the present and in a special creative ferment considering the critical conditions experienced by the cinema in the last two years”.

The director’s statement

Regarding the prestigious award, the director Filippo Vendemmiati he said:

“Even if the awards must always be taken with detachment and sportsmanship both when they are received and when they go to others, the emotion remains strong, as well as the desire to thank everyone who worked on the film – starting with Genoma Films who produced it – and how many have been enjoying it in cinemas for some months. To Franco I owe the sum of poetry and irony: our coming-out was believing in a film about a ‘Busone’ from Bologna made by a heterosexual from Ferrara. Thanks Franco. Let’s kiss everyone “

The thematic

Let’s Kiss – Franco Grillini. History of a Gentile Revolution focuses on the figure of Franco Grillini, a Bolognese politician and activist who has always been involved in the struggle for the recognition of LGBT civil rights. Through the live story made by the protagonist, the biopic, with a light tone and unpublished documentary material, reconstructs the symbolic places of his life. Furthermore, it gives an insight into over forty years of Italian political history. It also testifies to the hard and gentle struggle in the name of dignity and equality on a very topical issue that still today, even though it affects millions of people, remains strongly divisive when not ignored.

The film is directed by Filippo Vendemmiati. It has done so with the support of the Unipol Group, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Bologna and the Ministry of Culture – Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual.

Let’s Kiss – Franco Grillini is a Genoma Films co-production by Paolo Rossi Pisu with Albedo Productions by Cinzia Salvioli. After an extraordinary reception in cinemas all over Italy, it will arrive on Sky Documentaries in June, the month of Pride.
