Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE, new details revealed by Spike Chunsoft

Through a press release, Spike Chunsoft has unveiled new interesting details regarding the plot, characters and gameplay of Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE, let’s find out together in this dedicated article

Spike Chunsoft is a company that it is gradually making itself known in the West, and not just as a publisher. If in fact, originally, it was recognized exclusively for the Visual Novel investigative series Danganronpa, which arrived last year also on Nintendo Switch in a package called Decadence, we recently told you about the Made in Abyss tie-in they published, which did not go then. so happily, but which is still a starting point to think about doing something more. In recent months, however, the company has announced, for the sake of all those who wanted a new Danganronpa, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE.

Along the lines of what Danganronpa was (and in fact the creators are the same), Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE is a Visual Novel with investigative elements and starring Yuma, a detective suffering from amnesia. Through a press release, in the past few hours Spike Chunsoft has revealed many new details about the game, the setting, the characters, the gameplay mechanics and other basic elements. The game is set in Kanai Ward, a weird city where rain is constantly falling. Divided into different areas, each with a different atmosphere, Kanai Ward is also the basis of a megacorporation, which grew right in parallel with the development of the city. Not long ago, however, Kanai Ward came under the control of this megacorporation, so the government fails to function properly and, due to the isolation, there is interference with the outside world. No one can oppose the megacorporation, and many mysteries remain unsolved.

Yuma is our amnesiac protagonist, with a dark past, but in possession of documents indicating that was sent to Kanai Ward as a detective still in training. He lacks self-confidence and complains often, but has a strong sense of justice and tries to help anyone who needs it. Then there is the Shinigami, a Goddess of Death sent to haunt Yuma. She usually appears in her spirit form of hers, visible only to Yoma, but in the Mystery Labyrinth she changes into humanoid form by transforming into a girl with long pink hair.

Accompanying Yuma and the Shinigami are the Master Detectives, experts in criminal investigation and each with special skills that allow them to obtain information and evidence that ordinary people would not say anything. Together with Yuma, they will take charge of Kanai Ward’s most difficult cases. The city is fully 3D and can be explored freely, visiting different settings, including crime scenes, to collect evidence and conduct interrogations. The Mystery Labyrinth, on the other hand, is a world parallel to reality that contains the mysteries of reality, in which we will have to solve more or less complex puzzles to steal the truth.

In the Mystery Labyrinth we will have to confront the Mystery Phantoms in called battles Reasoning Death Matches, which will likely be similar to the various Danganronpa Trials. The Mystery Phantoms are the representation of the will of the person who is trying to cover up the case and prevent the truth from coming out. In a Reasoning Death Match it is essential to find the contradictions and, in the meantime, dodge the statements of the Mystery Phantoms. The latter appear in the form of characters in the game, but the person represented is not necessarily the culprit. It could very well be someone else, with some other objective, covering up the case and covering up the culprit.
