Nissan Townstar, Nissan’s relaunch among LCVs: modern, elegant and technological

A few months ago we were able to get a first look at Nissan Townstar in preview during the national presentation of the model, in Rome. On that occasion we were also able to learn more about Nissan’s strategy for the light commercial vehicles market, the so-called LCVs (Light Commercial Vehicles in English) for Italy and Europe. If you want to know more, you will find the dedicated article at the bottom of the page, as always. Today, however, we see its main features, which make it a really interesting Van.

First of all, as the most passionate about commercial and multi-space vehicles will have noticed, Nissan Townstar incorporates the characteristics of an MPV that we loved very much, the Renault Kangoo. We made one first proof of his French “little brother” at the beginning of the year, and you can also find in this case the road test at the bottom of the page. Compared to Kangoo, however, change the style, a little less jaunty and more elegant and modern, both in front and behind. All ‘internal, on the other hand, the differences are minor: with Kangoo it therefore shares an excellent build quality, excellent ergonomics and a lot technology, on board and beyond.

Nissan Townstar is indeed equipped with 8-inch infotainment, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay but also and above all of active safety systems such as intelligent cruise control, 360 ° camera, blind spot sensor and hill start aid. Then there are two specific devices for a van such as thehelp in the event of crosswinds and the anti-skidding system of the trailer. More, Van version has 3.3 m3 of space (4.9 m3 for Townstar with long wheelbase), while the passengers offers plenty of space for people and luggage. The trunk accommodates 775 liters flush with the windows, which rise to well 3.500 folding down the rear sofa and the passenger seat. In addition, the space for the rear passengers is best in class. On a mechanical level, Townstar is based on the CMF-C platform of the Group, and is now available with only one engine.

In fact, at the launch there will be only the 1.3 TCe 4-cylinder turbocharger with 130 HP and 240 Nm, both for the Van version and for the passenger transport version. No diesel enginesNissan does not rely on diesel fuel for its commercial vehicles. The version Nissan is banking on the most will arrive in a few months, Townstar EV. Available for both bodies, Townstar EV will have a 122 HP front electric motor, and a 44 kWh battery. The range will be 285 km in the WLTP cycle, and it will be precisely on this engine that Nissan will focus more.

The price of Nissan Townstar: the Van starts at € 18,600, the passenger version from € 28,610

Nissan indeed wants to become the reference in the light commercial vehicle market as regards sustainable mobility. The Japanese manufacturer therefore chooses to “sacrifice” some of the sales numbers that it would obtain with a diesel version, but focusing on a complete electrified range that is more attractive in the long term. While waiting for the debut of the EV version, however, Nissan Townstar is ready to debut in Europe with the 1.3 turbo petrol. Orders are open, and prices are attractive. In fact, together with the opening of the orders, Nissan has disclosed the Italian price lists of the Van and passenger transport versions.

Let’s start with the work one: the price of Nissan Townstar Van 1.3 TCe 130 CV with manual gearbox starts at 18,000 euros (excluding VAT). The price obviously includes the warranty, which for Nissan commercial vehicles amounts to 5 years or 160,000 km. Same treatment for Townstar passenger transport, which however, as you can imagine, costs a little more. The price of Nissan Townstar in the “civilian” version is in fact set from a starting base of 28,610 euros. At this price, Nissan Townstar offers all its comfort, quality and safety features, and the 130 HP 1.3 TCe engine with manual gearbox. Finally, it is good to remember how Nissan Townstar has awarded 4 out of 5 stars in the Euro NCAP safety rating, an excellent result for the segment.
