On the occasion of the MWC 2021, Oral-B is committed to continuing the development of new technologies for oral hygiene, giving particular importance to a tool that is still not very widespread: the electric toothbrush.
Oral-B – a leading brand in the oral care products market – is committed to reminding people, of all ages, that the power of their oral health is in their own hands. The mouth and the smile are the mirror of the health of the body: a healthy mouth is the key to maintaining a healthy body. Today, oral diseases affect nearly 3.5 billion people worldwide and it is in the face of this fact that Oral-B intends to make visible that invisible connection between oral health and well-being of the whole body, to increase people’s awareness.
For this reason, at the Mobile World Congress 2021, Oral-B consolidates its commitment to promoting healthy oral hygiene habits, such as the daily use of the electric toothbrush, with the aim of creating a positive impact on the health of families and the planet. The brand, which pioneered the future of the electric and connected toothbrush, has partnered with Scientific American and his Custom Media Division (SACM) to explore the latest research that connect oral health with the overall health of the body and communicate to people the impact that chronic periodontal disease can have on wider systemic diseases. Benjamin Binot, Senior Vice President, Europe – Oral Care at Procter & Gamble, comments:
Oral-B’s partnership with Scientific American further solidifies our mission to educate consumers and professionals about the connection between oral health and overall body health. Many people are unaware of the impact chronic periodontal disease can have on a wider systemic disease. For this, Oral-B is committed to pursuing a long-term educational path. I am so proud of this partnership that it will play a key role in the future of our new innovations and in consumer education.

Oral-B: how oral health affects our body
Research shows that poor oral health it can lead to serious conditions and diseases, for this reason it is important to pay close attention to the first warning signs, such as swollen or irritated gums. The formation of gum disease begins when the containing plaque millions of bacteria cover the teeth and accumulates undisturbed.
The acid produced by the bacteria can erode tooth enamel causing tooth decay and irritate the gums. causing gingivitis that can progress to periodontitis, a more serious infection that can lead to tooth loss and cause an inflammatory response in periodontal tissues. A condition that can trigger a chain reaction, systematically spreading through the body through the circulatory system and reaching other parts of the body. Severe, untreated gum disease can lead to more serious conditions such as pregnancy complications, cognitive loss, poor diabetes control and increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Health in the family
Having control of the health of the little ones is essential. In fact, already at the age of three, parents can help children develop good oral hygiene habits. The health and oral hygiene of the little ones are influenced by the type of toothbrush, the age at which the first toothbrush is used, the habit of brushing the teeth twice a day up to the anomalies of the bite. Oral-B is close to the oral health of families and through the most iconic cartoon characters and tools such as l’app Disney Magic Timer, educates the little ones to brush their teeth properly and for 2 minutes every morning and evening, thus making brushing a fun activity for the whole family.
In clinical studies, Oral-B iO provides a deeper cleaning of teeth and gums, allowing users to maintain oral health easily and effectively. The Oral-B iO users have experimented:
- 100% healthier gums in just one week compared to manual toothbrushes;
- 6 times greater plaque removal along the gum line compared to manual toothbrushes;
- it was found that 83% of patients with swollen gums showed improvement in eight weeks.
