The night of the 2023 Oscars was a daydream for I Wonder Pictures, a film distribution company operating on Italian soil, which took home 10 statuettes: let’s find out all the details together

The 95th edition of the Oscar Night was a success and also avoided media slip-ups like that of Will Smith last year. Between awards, thrilling performances (Lady Gaga docet) and great guests, the evening came to an end in general satisfaction and in last year’s jubilation for great cinematography. A great success also for the films distributed in Italy by I Wonder Pictures, which collected a total of 10 statuettes.

Everything Everywhere All at Once, the revelation film of this film season signed by the visionary duo The Daniels, aka Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, takes home 7 Oscars: Best film, Best director, Best actress for Michelle Yeoh (first interpreter to obtain the statuette in this category), Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, Best Supporting Actress for Jamie Lee Curtis, Best Original Screenplay, also signed by the Daniels, and Best Editing, created by Paul Rogers. A real triumph for an atypical and original independent filmwhich started quietly but gradually became a real generational phenomenon, which continues its journey in Italian cinemas more than four months after its release and only a few hours before the Oscars Ceremony had won the title of most awarded film in history.

Instead, there are 2 Oscar Awards for The Whale by Darren Aronofsky. Brendan Fraser wins the statuette for Best Actor, the definitive consecration for an extraordinary performance, already highly appreciated by audiences and critics from all over the world, and for a beloved interpreter, finally back in the spotlight after having remained away from it for years, a comeback so powerful that the neologism “Brenaissance” was coined for him, the “renaissance of Brendan”. The Whale also wins the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling by Adrien Morot, Judy Chin and Annemarie Bradley.

Ben 10 statuette per I Wonder Pictures agli Oscar 2023: Everything Everywhere all At Once, The Whale e Navalny!

Lastly, the Oscar for Best Documentary goes to Navalny by Daniel Roher, Thriller pitch portrait of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny intent on investigating the attempted poisoning he suffered in August of 2020.

Andrea Romeo, founder and managing director of I Wonder Pictures, commented:

There couldn’t have been a better 10th anniversary party than this one for Wonder Pictures. We were born ten years ago by distributing a small documentary entitled Searching for Sugar Man – and which in a few months will return to cinemas to celebrate its tenth anniversary – and this evening we are enjoying a beautiful Oscar night in which three of our films, out of six nominees, they won and they won hard. Navalny is the Best Documentary and it is an important story with which we will return to the cinema as soon as possible. The Whale is still firmly in Italian cinemas with excellent public success and I hope it will grow and stay there for a long time to come. And then I’m happy that Everything Everywhere All at Once is back after this triumph at the Oscars. It’s nice to celebrate such a striking result not only for films that have won, but for films that have demonstrated great cinematic strength, a great range of content and humanity and great creative freedom. There is a great need for all these values today, and not just in the cinema.

A riot for Wonder Pictures at the 2023 Oscars and we can only be happy: the more valuable films are localized in Italian, the more we simple spectators will be able to enjoy them.
