Playstation: announced the acquisition of the Valkyrie Entertaiment studio

Shortly after the end of The Game Awards 2021, PlayStation announced the acquisition of the Valkyrie Entertaiment studio

On the night of December 9-10, this year’s long-awaited The Game Awards were held, and several interesting revelations were made during the course of the event. Being the largest stage available in the last month of the year, it is likely that there will be no further news to be announced in the last few weeks before the arrival of 2022. Also for this reason, both Sony or Microsoft have used the time available to them to show further the titles arriving on their platforms, but clearly they also had to leave room for the other participating companies. Perhaps this is also why the head of PlayStation Studios announced shortly after the acquisition of the Valyrie Entertaiment studio.

The acquisition of Valkyrie Entertaiment by PlayStation

Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, wanted to turn to Twitter to announce the acquisition of Valkyrie Entertaiment, which will go to replenish the ranks of his studies. It is a development team established in Seattle and founded in 2002, which has long collaborated in the creation of several titles with other videogame studios. An example of the works they have participated in are the most recent Halo Infinite, Forza Motorsport 7, the God of War reboot and several third party titles such as League of Legends and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Furthermore, as early as September it was known that Valkyrie Entertaiment would also co-develop the new Santa Monica opera, God of War Ragnarok.

It is therefore not a videogame study focused on the production of individual titles, but this does not mean that it will not be useful for the ambitions of PlayStation, on the contrary. In a press statement, Hermes Hulst states that Valyrie Entertainment is a studio with strong adaptability skills and highly respected, with great quality productions across all platforms, spanning a wide variety of genres. The capabilities of Valkyire Entertainment are therefore welcome by PlayStation Studios, remembering how Sony is starting to open up more and more to markets outside of home gaming devices only. While Valkyrie Entertaiment seems to find itself working on two unannounced games and not even produced by other teams (and therefore their first original titles) Sony has been able to insert a new recruit among its studios.
