Finally available the first firmware update for PS5, the “next-gen” console from Sony, which will bring the addition of many new features: from external storage to cross-gen Share Play
Starting today, April 14, the first firmware update is available for PlayStation 5, the newborn next-gen console from Sony. Characterized by a launch that is certainly not without problems, this new generation of consoles, with leaders PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S from Microsoft, is definitely struggling to take off in terms of consoles actually produced. A deficiency that obviously reflects on the sales, which remain sensational, and on the possibilities of each of us to grab a unit. Over time the situation will certainly improve, but to date… no console.
Let’s go back to the firmware update available from today. The first big news, and perhaps the most awaited, is that relating to storage and memory management. Starting today you can transfer your PS5 games to an external USB storage memory, a hard disk or an external SSD. You can then copy the games to eternal memory in case you no longer need them, and then transfer them back to the console’s SSD when you want to use them. This is because the console’s SSD allows for super-fast loading of games, and for this very reason you will not be able to play them directly from the USB memory.
PS5 ready for the new firmware update: external storage and many social features
The second interesting novelty is the introduction of the cross-gen Share Play, with which PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players will be able to use Share Play and chat in parties. Additionally, PS5 users will be able to allow their PS4 owner friends to both view their game screen and test PS5 games. The basic console menu has been updated and simplified, the pre-download function of updates has been added, new customization possibilities and much more.
