Through an official press release released in the past few hours, Sony announced to the world that it has acquired a new development studio, or Haven Studios. Let’s see all the background together below!
Founded in March 2021, Haven Studios so far it has been a small independent development studio born from the idea of Jade Raymond. For those not in the know, Jade Raymond is known for having contributed significantly to the creation of franchises such as Assassin’s Creed e Watch Dogs within Ubisoft Montréal: moreover, in addition to having also founded the studio of Ubisoft Torontowas also part of the Google study (the Stadia Games and Entertainment), holding the role of president. Well, after also leaving the Google studios and having founded his own independent software house Haven Studios, Sony today officially announced the acquisition of the studio.
Sony and Haven Studios: A new development team within PlayStation Studios
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO, Jim Ryanenthusiastically commented on the following:
Haven Studios is an up and coming studio with an exceptionally talented team, and we are delighted to welcome them to PlayStation as our first game development studio in Canada. The studio’s focus on creating an original AAA multiplayer game will not only showcase the power of PlayStation 5, but will further expand the diverse catalog of gaming experiences that can only be found on PlayStation.
After the previous acquisition of Bungie, with this new entry the number of studios in the large family of Playstation Studios rises to quota 18. With a team of over 60 employees in continuous growth therefore, Haven Studios will join the PlayStation Studios. The day-to-day operations following the acquisition will continue to be organized by the Haven Studios management team in close collaboration with the PlayStation Studios management team, according to the statements. The terms of this transaction including the acquisition cost were unfortunately not disclosed due to contractual commitments.
