Key features of the Sony Mobile XS-162ES, XS-160ES, XS-690ES and XS-680ES speakers:

  • Woofer in MRC con matrice in fibra di aramide: Sony’s speaker diaphragm is made of mica-reinforced cellular material (MRC), developed to ensure high rigidity and good internal loss (low resonance distortion), while maintaining a low weight. This third generation compound has been further optimized with mechanical driver enhancements for an even wider frequency response and smoother, more natural audio characteristics. The integration of the MRC into a unique aramid fiber matrix eliminates diaphragm resonance and minimizes distortion, not only in the bass, but also in the mid and upper frequencies. The result is a powerful sound at all frequencies and incredibly clean, even at higher volumes.
  • Separate notch frame: The surround woofer is equipped with another Sony proprietary technology, with curved notches that improve the symmetry of the vertical width to drastically reduce distortion and improve sharpness.
  • Soft dome tweeter: The diaphragm of the soft dome tweeter, compatible with the High-Resolution Audio format, is directly connected to the voice coil, designed to cover higher-end sounds thanks to a frequency range that extends up to 40 kHz.
  • Five-frame structure and dynamic air diffuser: The five-bezel design disperses resonance, while the integrated diffuser ensures efficient air circulation for flexible cone operation and coil cooling.
  • Spider with progressive height variation: The spider is acoustically optimized and allows for more power and better airflow, with a profile designed for faster and more precise cushioning of the cone.
  • Phase plug (XS-162ES only): The phase plug for resonance damping on the XS-162ES woofer allows for an ideal frequency response, up to the crossover point with synchronized tweeters. The rigid aluminum voice coil and dynamic air diffuser further support the speaker’s wide frequency response for controlled and dynamic bass.
  • Bi-amp terminals and gain selector in crossover networks (XS-162ES only): The sophisticated crossover features a metallized polypropylene film capacitor with low dissipation for maximum smoothness. The bi-amp-capable design attenuates tweeter distortion when using the woofer with high input levels. The dedicated gain selector balances woofer and tweeter signal levels and allows tweeter level adjustment, even when driving components from a single amplifier.

Main features of the XS-W104ES subwoofer:

  • Woofer a nido d’ape in MRC: MRC (mica reinforced cellular material) honeycomb structure is specially designed for subwoofers. The core of the diaphragm is made of a foam-like material with a fiber honeycomb base, which ensures a bending stiffness ten times higher than that of the normal PP matrix. This results in incredibly precise and powerful bass and reduced distortion. Optimized for new mechanical approaches, this third generation subwoofer diaphragm ensures optimized frequency response and smooth audio characteristics.
  • Separate notch frame: Thanks to the characteristic curved notches that improve the symmetry of the vertical width, this technology drastically reduces distortion and improves sharpness.
The conductor wire of the coil is fixed to the structure to reduce its movements and thus improve the integrity of the signal, avoiding sound interference.
