Ficarra and Picone: from cinema to TV series
For the first time the two comedians have decided to leave the cinema, which has seen them protagonists with many successful films, such as Il 7 e l’8 (2007), La matassa (2009), Even if it’s love you can’t see ( 2011), Let’s go to that country (2014), Summer time (2017) and the most recent Il primo Natale (2019), to dedicate yourself to a TV series.
Stuck is one comic crime tv series, a real thriller a 6 episodes. In the conference, the two confessed to being stimulated to undertake this new path, especially for the possibility of being able to learn more about the characteristics and psychology of the characters, which is more complex when it comes to having to develop a film. Picone then added:
We have always been curious to do many things, ranging from television to theater and still we would like to change and try new things, we don’t like to repeat ourselves. It takes seriousness in dealing with the different languages, there are no means of series A or series B, only different languages to explore.
Ilaria Castiglioni, responsible for involving the two comedians in creating a series, speaks of this new product as one challenge to try to bring the language of comedy into a TV series, adapting it to new rules. In speaking of comedy, Picone then added:
We have not found enormous difficulties in transferring the comedy into a TV series, the basis is always that of getting stuck in a situation and then trying to get out of it in the most clumsy way possible. Over time we have sought a more dry, essential comedy. We started in a way and then, over time, we began to explore it in a less exposed way, as happens to many.
The theme of the mafia
Also in this series, as happened in other previous productions of Ficarra and Picone, the theme of the mafia is present, but in a different guise compared to films like Summer Time, where corruption was evident and the blame also fell on the citizens.
The two comedians wanted to clarify that their purpose is to make people laugh, not to console, but it is also important don’t forget the past. At the time of the Mafia massacres, Sicilian citizens internalized their shame, now instead, with the new generations you risk forgetting what it was, for this we must keep the attention high. The mafia today is only hidden, but still not defeated and it is therefore important to tell it.
