In the last few decades, apps have taken hold that thinking about our life without them seems impossible. Today there is one for practically everything!
Chat, photos, dating, gaming, sports, restaurants, retail, betting – and, in that regard, I suggest you take a look at the best betting apps – and so on and so forth!
In short, whatever the area, our smartphone “can do anything”.
And how much time do we spend on our apps!
Think that, according to a research, 53% of the time we spend online (or an average of 7 hours a day), we spend in front of our smartphone. Much of this time, on our apps.
Covid-19 then gave a further boost to this world. Having, in fact, a lot of time taken away from sociability due to the lockdown, not only programmers have gone wild creating applications on applications, but we ourselves, not knowing what to invent to pass the time, we have spent a lot of it on our apps.
It is estimated that since the start of the pandemic in June 2020 (therefore, in about three months) the use of devices and apps has increased by 35%.
But what are the most used entertainment apps and games in Italy? Using the data provided by Data AI, let’s find out.
Entertainment app
Among the entertainment apps particularly loved by Italians, the real boom has been made by TikTok, which, in the general ranking, we find in the lead for downloads and in fourth place for collections, preceded by the famous dating app, Tinder.
Television content is also very popular: in the ranking we find Prime Video (eighth place in the overall ranking of receipts) and Netflix (fifth place).
Photos and videos see a new competitor: CapCut, a video editing app developed by the creators of TikTok. Then follow the more traditional giants such as Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube. Among the social apps preferred by Italians are Telegram, WhatsApp and Facebook. Spotify, Shazam and Amazon Music on the podium of music apps, followed by eSound, YouTube Music and SoundCloud.
It is curious to note how, among the behaviors adopted by Italians, there is a greater attention to the environment and recycling (as in the case of Too Good To Go, which has climbed to the top among food and drink apps in Italy). In fact, for the purchase of clothing, the app at the top of the charts by number of downloads is Vinted, developed for the sale and purchase of second-hand items, which surpasses Amazon, SHEIN and Zalando.
Among the apps that have taken off especially post-Covid we find those of Health & Fitness. In the lead, BuddyFit for home exercises, WeWard – the French app that “pays you to walk” -, Flo, Yuka and Yazio, for monitoring calories and physical well-being.
And for sports fans?
DAZN is the one that monetizes the most in the Bel Paese, together with NBA, Eurosport Player and Eurosport.
Gaming app
In Italy, the increase in mobile gaming grew by 10.6% in 2021 and there was an incredible number of downloads: 13.3 billion last year alone.
Among the games most downloaded by Italians, we must make a distinction between free and paid ones.
The free ones tend to be basically “no obligation” games: Hay Day tops the chart, followed by Fill the Fridge, Airport security and – once again – Subway Surfers.
Among the paid ones, more varied than the previous ones, in first place – and not too surprisingly – we find Minecraft, followed by Plague Inc, Monopoly, Geometry Dash and Pou.
As for the takings, however, on the podium of the games that monetize the most in Italy there are: the Israeli Coin Master, followed, once again, by Hay Day and the everlasting, particularly loved by the over 40s, Candy Crush Saga.
