Sony recently unveiled its latest gem in lenses, the FE 16-25mm F2.8 Glens designed for E-mount full-frame α (Alpha) series cameras.
This wide-angle zoom lens stands out for its ability to maintain a constant aperture of F2.8 across the entire focal range from 16 to 25 mm, thus offering sharp, high-quality images. Despite its high-level performance, the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G does not compromise portability: Its compact design and weight of just 409 grams make it an ideal companion for photographers on the move.
The features of the Sony FE 16-25mm F2.8 G lens
Highlights of this lens include exceptional resolution, mesmerizing bokeh, and a fast and silent autofocus systemor. Its lightness makes it perfect for capturing images that require a wide perspective, typical of wide-angle shots. Furthermore, it is compatible with the FE 24-50mm F2.8 G regarding the filter diameter, dimensions and weight, facilitating use both freehand and on gimbal.
FE 16-25mm F2.8 G is equipped with three ED glass elements (Extra-low Dispersion) and four aspherical lenses, including an ED aspherical lens, which together reduce chromatic aberration and ensure high resolution in every part of the image. LCircular opening with 11 slats and spherical aberration optimization contribute to the distinctive bokeh effect of Sony's G-series lenses.
This goal allows high-quality close-up shots up to a minimum distance of 0.18 meters it's a maximum magnification of 0.20x. Its two linear motors ensure precise and inaudible autofocus, ideal for fast-moving subjects. The linear response MF function further improves manual focusing, while the reduction of the “breathing” effect ensures superior quality footage. The lens is also compatible with the in-camera image stabilization system “Active Mode” mode of the α series cameras, ensuring maximum image quality.
As far as operations are concerned, the The FE 16-25mm F2.8 G features a focus hold button, an aperture ring with ON/OFF switch and a focus mode switch. It is also designed to resist moisture and dust, thanks to a protective fluorine coating on the front surface of the optics.
Availability of the new lens
The new FE 16-25mm F2.8 G lens will be available from authorized Sony retailers in Europe from the end of April.
