The release date of The Whale at the cinema in Italy has been set for February 23, 2023, in conjunction with the 2023 Oscar awards ceremony
Directed by Darren Aronofksy, starring Brendan Fraser and Sadie Sink, The Whale is highly anticipated for many reasons. On the one hand because it marks the return of the acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky, recently a guarantee on the big screen. On the other hand because it features Brendan Fraser as the protagonist after many years of absence. From today The Whale finally has an Italian release date.
I Wonder Pictures – the Italian distribution house of the project – has in fact announced that the film will arrive at the cinema starting from February 23, 2023. The release window, therefore, will also allow the Italian public to see one of the works that is expected to star in the next Oscar race in time for the awards ceremony, scheduled for March 12, 2023.

The Whale, after its extraordinary success at the Venice Film Festival, debuted at the US box office with an average of $60,000 per theater – the best figure of the season -, earning around $360,000 in just six theaters between New York and Los Angeles. In the second programming weekend, the film then grossed approx $2,800,000confirming itself as one of the most anticipated titles of the current film season.
The Whale tells the story of Charlie, an obese and lonely university professor who lives as a recluse at home. After years of breaking ties with everyone, he tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter, while the ghosts of his past and the memory of a love never revealed begin to haunt him.
Next to Brendan Fraser in the role of the protagonist, universally acclaimed for his performance and already nominated for the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, there is Sadie Sink, known to the general public for the cult series Stranger Things. The screenplay is by Samuel D. Hunter, who adapted his homonymous play for the cinema. In Italy The Whale, as mentioned, will be distributed by I Wonder Pictures e Unipol Biografilm Collection.
