Tom Clancy’s XDefiant will be a Ubisoft Connect exclusive at launch

No steam and no epic: Tom Clancy’s XDefiant will be only on Ubisoft Connect … or, if nothing else, it will certainly be on day one

Despite the cross-play, Ubisoft Connect will be the only marketplace that will allow you to play Tom Clancy’s XDefiant. The confirmation comes from a representative of the French publisher, who told the foreign press that despite “discussions with other stores” for the post-launch period, the formerUplay will remain the only place to join the fray in this new free-to-play experience inspired by the late writer’s spy novels. This also means that if you were hoping to play it on Steam or the Epic Games Store, you should put your soul in peace.

If you don’t connect to Ubisoft, there isn’t Tom Clancy’s XDefiant

The limitation to Ubisoft Connect has no precedent, if we count that on the other marketplaces there are publisher titles unrelated to Tom Clancy’s XDefiant. Just think of Rainbow Six Siege or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Since 2019, Epic and the French publisher have entered into a partnership to publish all of the latter’s titles on PC. In particular, Rainbow Six Extraction, Far Cry 6 and Riders Republic have yet to come out, but still have their own page on the Epic store. The games still far from the release, on the other hand, do not have it.

We don’t know why, and certainly for now the publisher’s lips remain stitched. We would venture a hypothesis on the question of microtransazioni, the proceeds of which will probably be destined to Ubisoft’s pockets without any percentages (the Epic-Apple lawsuit is teaching). The other free-to-play of the French house, The Division Heartland, does not have a page on the Epic Games Store, it does not, unlike the previous Hyper Scape online experiment which received one last August. We will know more at the first beta test, which is also scheduled for on the 5th of August.
