Il generalized down of Twitter this morning (March 1, 2023) also involved Italian users, both from desktop and mobile. The disservice was in fact global, with millions of users who flocked to DownDetector to report the problem.
Specifically, the down concerned the home of the social network. In fact, users found themselves on an empty page, with zero tweets, bearing the inscription “Welcome to Twitter”which is exactly what it would appear to a new subscriber with no profiles followed.
In Italy the disruptions began to appear around 10:30, with a peak of reports which occurred at 11:44. The problems gradually subsided until 1.00pm, but it was only at 2.00pm that the reporting ended.
The down of Twitter occurred after the maxi-firing
The outage came just days after a new wave of layoffs hit employees. Twitter allegedly fired more than 200 employees and executivesincluding also Esther Crawford, (now ex) head of Twitter Blue.
It’s currently unclear if the layoffs have anything to do with the disruption. However, the fact that the platform is lacking in manpower could certainly have accentuated the downturn.
