Volvo software update coming on the latest models

Volvo has announced all of its new car models starting from the year 2023 they will be available with over-the-air (OTA) software update capabilities. The wireless update will be available on the latest models of XC90 SUV, on the S60 sedan and V60 station wagon and in the brand’s all-electric cars.

In this latest round of OTA updates, Volvo owners will receive an update of their infotainment system to the latest version of the Android Automotive operating system, aka Android 11. They will also have access to new app categories on Google Play, including browsing, charging and parking, while video streaming is expected to be added later in the year.

Volvo’s software update will reach 190,000 cars worldwide

The update also brings feature improvements, ranging from improved energy management to improved climate timers (increases driving range) and updates to mobile and car app features. The Volvo app will also receive more frequent updates from the car on the charging level during an ongoing session.

This is Volvo’s eighth complete car update and will reach more than 190,000 cars worldwide.

“By making all Volvo models capable of receiving OTA updates, we are making important progress towards our ambition to improve our customers’ cars every day. This is a significant milestone: we are updating cars of all models in most of our markets, bringing the benefits of continuous remote updates to an ever-increasing number of customers “, said Henrik Green, Volvo Cars chief product officer.

Since early 2021, Volvo has been offering regular OTA updates in most of its markets, and the Geely-owned company expects the volume of cars covered by these updates to grow with each new update.

Separately, Volvo also announced that it will offer its infotainment system with some of the most popular Google apps and services. such as Google Assistant and Google Maps which will be integrated into all new models. Developed in partnership with Google, Volvo says its infotainment system offers customers an intuitive interface, unprecedented connectivity and access to popular apps and services. However, OTA functionality and Google services they are not available on the XC40.
