Venice Film Festival 2023: director Wes Anderson the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker award

About this recognition, the Director of the Exhibition Alberto Barbera commented:

Wes Anderson is among the few directors for whom a single frame is enough to immediately recognize his unique and unmistakable style. His formal universe refers to a childish and visionary aesthetic, dominated by pastel colors, by the maniacal care of rigorously symmetrical shots and populated by characters of maladjusted dreamers, incurably romantic and smiling. From the memorable and moving soundtracks (often inspired by the sixties), to the extravagant costumes that reflect the psychology of the characters, every detail and composition within the individual shots is meticulously conceived and masterfully executed. The worlds created by the director are plausible and yet completely imaginary and fictitious, supported by a surreal humor and an alienating taste for the stories of maladjusted families, absent fathers and imperturbable mothers. An eccentric cinema, very personal and always perfectly entertaining and enjoyable.
