WhatsApp Web will work even without a connected smartphone

Coming for WhatsApp Desktop an update that will delight users who use the computer messaging service on a daily basis. Right now, in fact, the platform is testing a Beta that allows users to use the application too without the smartphone being connected to the Internet. A feature that we have all been waiting for for a long time. Now, as you well know, it is impossible to use the service when the phone drops below a certain charge level or the data connection is poor. With the new update, however, it will finally be possible to fully exploit all the potential of WhatsApp even from Desktop. Let’s see how.

WhatsApp Desktop: a new update is coming to use the service without a smartphone

This morning, like every day, we woke up and started all the paperwork to start the work in the editorial office. Opening WhatsApp Desktop, we found ourselves faced with a message that reads: “The new WhatsApp Web is available. With this new update, the phone does not need to be connected to the Internet to use WhatsApp on the web, desktop or other devices. You can use up to 4 connected devices and 1 telephone at the same time “. Double novelty, therefore, coming with the update.

First of all, the possibility of using the messaging service even without the smartphone being actually connected to the Internet. However, if the phone is inactive for more than 14 days, all connected devices will be automatically disconnected. Despite this, the messaging service will keep the end-to-end encryption, which means that messages, media and calls will remain absolutely private. Also, as anticipated, the update will allow you to use WhatsApp on 4 different devices in addition to the smartphone.

What it won’t allow you to do, for example, is delete / delete chats from connected devices if your phone is an iPhone. Or interact with people who have a WhatsApp version older than yours, use the tablet for the messaging service or create / view broadcast lists on connected devices. In short, there are still limits, but what matters is certainly being able to use WhatsApp Desktop even without the smartphone having an active connection.

How to use WhatsApp from a PC without an active smartphone connection

The new WhatsApp update is available, thus allowing us to use the messaging service from a PC even when the smartphone does not have an active connection. To use the function, therefore, all you have to do is open the App from your phone, and click on “Settings” and “Connected devices”. Here you will find the entry “Update available”. Touching it will open a window that provides all the necessary explanations on the new functionality: “It is no longer necessary that your phone is connected to the Internet to use WhatsApp on the web, desktop or other devices”.

By clicking on the “Update Now” button, the application will be reconfigured by disconnecting all connected devices, which you can easily reconnect from your smartphone. Once you have performed all the procedures, returning to WhatsApp Desktop you will find the indication “Now you can send and receive messages without the phone being connected to the Internet”. From this moment on, whatever happens to your smartphone will not be a problem, because you can still access the platform from your PC.
