The Festival of Ethical Photography has announced the names of the seven winning photographers of the World Report Award 2023 | Documenting Humanitythe prestigious international photography competition supported by FUJIFILM Italy.

The award, which saw the participation of 833 photographers from 40 countries and 5 continents, was divided into 5 categories, which reward the best photographic reports on social, environmental and humanitarian issues. Two special mentions will be added to the 5 winners, selected by a competent jury.

World Report Award 2023: the winners of the individual categories

Here are the names of the winners and special mentions for each category:

  • MASTER: Evgeniy Maloletka with the report The siege of Mariupol, which documents the situation of the Ukrainian city under fire from pro-Russian separatists.
  • SPOTLIGHT: Bob Miller with the report The Last Generation: Zoey’s Dream, which takes up the story of Zoey Allen, barrel racing champion, who uses her sporting talent to help her grandfather train horses on behalf of other people. Special mention to Sarah Pabst per il reportage Everyone in Me is a Bird.
  • SHORT STORY: Alexander Five with the report Alpaqueros, which shows life and traditions in the difficult condition of alpaca farmers in Peru. Special mention a Luisa Lauxen Door for the reportage Imilla, which immortalizes young Bolivian skaters who fight against gender discrimination.
  • STUDENT: Gerd Waliszewski with Between the Sirens, which explores the impact of war on young Ukrainians. The title of the work, in fact, takes up the moment of stasis between two bombings.
  • SINGLE SHOT: Mohammad Rakibul Hasan with the image The Blue Fig, which captures the contrast between the beauty of nature and the devastation caused by pollution in Bangladesh.

The winning works will be exhibited at the Festival of Ethical Photography, which will be held in Lodi at Palazzo Barni from 30 September to 29 October 2023.
