L’iPhone 16 Pro Max, expected in September 2024, may have a “periscopic super-telephoto lens” which will allow for an incredible optical zoom. Although everything is still in the stage of speculation, there is talk of one focal length of 300 mmhigher than that of some competing Android phones.
iPhone 16 Pro Max, a periscopic super-telephoto zoom lens
Periscope cameras are already a reality on the high-end Android smartphone market, but it looks like the iPhone 16 Pro Max will also mark the debut of this innovative technology on Apple’s flagships. Currently, rumors suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro Max, due out this year, will offer one improved optical zoom from 3x to 6xthanks to the periscope camera.
However, the real leap forward could take place with the 2024 iPhone 16 Pro Max, if the information from the tipster Digital Chat Station turns out to be accurate. The latter said that the device will sport a “super-periscope telephoto”which, in practical terms, corresponds to an extraordinary focal length of 300 mm. This would far exceed the capabilities of competitors, such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra with a focal length of 230mm and the Pixel 7 Pro with 120mm.
Of course, everything can still change before the official release of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other innovative proposals could emerge on the Android market. Some Android phones, such as the future Galaxy S24 Ultra, could even exceed the 300 mm threshold thanks to periscope technologies.
The 16 Pro Max, which will arrive in over a year, should not only improve the camera. Indeed, it should become the first iPhone to measure 6.9 inches (a size that until a few years ago was reserved for tablets and eBook Readers).
All of these, however, are rumors. That could change before the launch in 2024, given that at the moment the smartphones of that generation remain in the planning stage. We will keep you posted.
