Leica presents two new ultra-wide angle lenses for the SL system, the Leica Super-Vario-Elmarit-SL 14-24 f/2.8 ASPH and the Leica Super-APO-Summicron-SL 21 f/2 ASPH. These lenses are built to meet the most rigorous photographic standards, so you can focus solely on capturing your subject without fear of optical performance.

L-Mount SL lenses provide unparalleled image quality for stills and movies, with the convenience of a compact design typical of the Leica system. Their sophisticated technologies are always based on a simple but fundamental idea: supporting the work of creatives with the highest level of quality. The APO lenses of the SL system, of which this brand new one has just been presented, represent the highest standards of image quality and robustness.

The Super-Vario-Elmarit-SL 14-24 f/2.8 ASPH is the first SL lens with a 14mm focal length and introduces a versatile and fast super-wide-angle zoom to the SL range. Designed with 18 elements, three of which are aspherical, distributed in 13 groups, it masterfully cancels distortions and chromatic aberrations, offering excellent image and video quality at any aperture and focal length.

Its range of applications ranges from architectural and interior shots to street, astro and landscape photography. The integrated metal lens hood not only minimizes unwanted flare, but also serves as a protective shield for the sharply curved front lens. Furthermore, a holder integrated into the bayonet connection allows the use of filters.

The world’s first APO lens with a focal length of 21mm with its wide viewing angle offers extraordinary perspectives and ensures the finest details. True to the tradition of Leica APO lenses, it offers exceptional contrast even when lighting is less than ideal, unlocking creative possibilities through precise control of focus and bokeh. Natural skin tones, smooth gradations and corner-to-corner sharpness are the norm for Leica APO lenses. They have everything a demanding photographer needs, both when shooting landscapes, interiors and architecture as well as when shooting photojournalism or more accurate studio sets.

With 14 lenses (3 of which are aspherical) expertly designed and arranged in 11 groups, this lens offers world-class performance already starting from maximum opening. What sets it apart is its apochromatic correction, making it the world’s first 21mm APO lens designed for full frame cameras. To eliminate chromatic aberration, most optical elements are made of specially made special glass, characterized by anomalous partial dispersion. This is made possible by cutting-edge production techniques and particularly sophisticated processes.
