This is a somewhat turbulent decade for the Royal Family that has nevertheless been well documented by journalists, biographers and historians.

Even Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Princess Diana, claims that the fifth season is the most visually faithful content to the real Royal Family.

In fact, it was precisely in the 90s that everything began to be filmed, thanks also to the birth of news channels active 24 hours a day. This is why it was possible to draw on an incredible amount of content.

The plot

Queen Elizabeth II, next to hers 40th anniversary of his accession to the thronefinds himself reflecting on a reign that included 9 prime ministers, the advent of TV for the masses and the decline of the British Empire.

But there are new challenges on the horizon. The collapse of the Soviet Union and the transfer of Hong Kong sovereignty signal a radical change in the international order and present challenges and opportunities to the Monarchy.

However, new problems are emerging not far from home.

Prince Charles manages to convince his mother to consent to the divorce with Diana and thus succeeds in laying the foundations for a constitutional crisis of the Monarchy. The increasingly separate life between husband and wife fuels gossip, so when the media peaks, Diana decides to break family rules and publishes a book which threatens the support of Charles from the public opinion and exposes the differences within the House of Windsor.

Tensions rise even more when he enters the scene Mohamed Al Fayed who, driven by the desire to be accepted by the nobility, exploits the heritage and the power he has earned by himself to get a seat at the royal table for him and for his son Dodi.
