Windows Media Player: here is the update on Windows 11

The modern version of Media Player is getting a number of new enhancements on Windows 11, this time available exclusively for Windows users. Before rollout to other production devices begins at a later time

In an ad, Microsoft reveals that the new version of Media Player and the 11.2205 e, include numerous improvements for Windows Insiders.

The most notable is the possibility of sort songs and albums in the collection by date added, with Microsoft explaining that this was one of the main requests of functionality, since the modern version of Media Player was released earlier this year.

Microsoft’s statements

Microsoft recently stated:

We are also starting to roll out an update for Media Player in version 11.2205 and later for Windows Insider in the Dev Channel. In addition to performance improvements for users with large media collections, we’ve added a more requested feature based on your feedback! You can now sort the songs and albums in your collection by date added.

No ETA for rollout on production devices

Furthermore, the software giant announced that Media Player is getting enhancements to support the playing CDsas part of this latter batch of updates. However, compared to the previous improvement mentioned above, this one is available for all Windows insiders regardless of the channel they are currently subscribed to.

Additionally Microsoft stated:

In March, we started rolling out support for CD playback. We’ve also made improvements to better accommodate theme changes and the drag-and-drop experience of media. These updates are now also available to all Windows Insiders.

For the moment, however, there is no AND about when the rollout, of these Windows Media Player updates may be enabled, for non-production devices. But since the release is not tied to an operating system updatethe launch of production should start at the end of the test.
