Writers’ strike: here are the series at risk

There is a lot of talk these days about the writers’ strike. The protest is also having repercussions on many TV series

Since May 1 last year, the trade union association Writers Guild of America (Wga), a representative of US television and film scriptwriters, called a strike that specifically affected screenwriters working in Hollywood. This is why many of the series we have been eagerly awaiting are and will experience writing delays. Let’s find out what’s happening and which shows are at risk.

What’s going on | Writers’ strike: here are the series at risk

Everything seems to have happened quickly and yet, it is possible that the reasons that led to this point of no return have already existed for a long time. Everything would have arisen from the tensions arising between Wga ed Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (Amptp), producers’ association; the central theme would seem to revolve around the modification of the expiring contracts of the screenwriters. The requests were clear: a minimum weekly wage, a minimum number of weeks worked per episode or a minimum number of authors per working group (writers room) and above all, protection for a nascent problem, which is preparing to become increasingly serious, i.e. theartificial intelligence. New technologies are becoming more and more refined, threatening to completely replace man’s work, including intellectual work. The strike, which will continue to the bitter end, is inevitably creating delays and problems in the production of various TV programs and series.

The series at risk

Although it may seem a transient and negligible problem, there are many and well-known shows that are experiencing the effects of the strike firsthand. Among the most discussed we find Cobra Kaiwhose sixth season is experiencing major slowdowns announced by co-creator Jon Hurwitz, but also Abbott Elementary, which could experience a reduction in episodes e Yellowjackets, whose third seasons apparently will be long in coming. All the American Late Shows have also joined these, such as Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Daily Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert e Late Night with Seth Myers.

In perhaps even the long-awaited Stranger Thingswhose production times are currently uncertain e The Rings of Power, whose shooting is underway, but will not be able to count on the work of executive producers JD Payne and Patrick McKay, who are involved in the protest. Hello by a hair instead the second seasons of House of the Dragon e Good Omens, since their writes have already been completed. At least for these two shows we can breathe a sigh of relief, with an eye, however, to an ever-changing situation and which is not when it could unlock. We of everything We will be here to update you about it.
